Inter-Link
Capability Model
Frequently Asked Questions
What
is it?
The Inter-Link Capability Model (ILCM) is the next step for community
and voluntary groups that are already members of networks, forums
or Inter-Links, have made use of training courses, but still want
to improve.
The
ILCM is a new way of working and designed to improve capability
and build capacity. The model aims to help members through an increasingly
difficult period where funding is becoming harder to access and
many more organisations are being encouraged to consider contracts
(e.g. from Local Authorities).
The
Inter-Link Model is a process for Voluntary and Community Organisations
that allows them to demonstrate their capabilities so that they
are in better position to bid for funding and/or contracts.
How
do I sign up to ILCM?
Just
contact our support team. We will put you in touch with your nearest
Assessment Centre.
What
is involved?
How
much work is up to you. Some groups may need more support to work
to a particular level of the Model while others may feel confident
that they have all the necessary processes and documentation in
place.
A
rough estimate of the minumum time needed, for
example to achieve a Level 2:
 |
Preparation
Time – approximately 1 hour |
 |
Facilitated
session - approximately 2 hours |
 |
Coaching
and Mentoring – approximately 2 hours (some organisations
may require more support) |
 |
Follow
up session - approximately 1 hour |
Additional
effort may be required by your organisation to compile all the information
to reach Level 2 and put together any additional policies/procedures
that are necessary. Your organisation may also wish to attend training.
Please
note that for Levels 3 and 4 more time is required.
What
are the benefits of ILCM?
It
will improve the way your organisation works and build capability:
 |
To
effectively build partnerships – based on mutual respect
and awareness |
 |
To
have an innovative approach to help the statutory sector to
engage with the Voluntary and Community Sector at all levels |
 |
To
build and coordinate the Voluntary and Community Sector to meet
the needs of the community – ensuring sustainability and
empowerment in neighbourhoods |
 |
A
dynamic process, looking at quality and clarity and identifying
learning opportunities for Voluntary and Community Organisations. |
Can
we obtain funding to make use of the ILCM?
There
may well be funding available in your area. Contact your local Community
Empowerment Network (CEN), Voluntary Sector Forum (VSF) or Local
Authority for details.
Building
up your organisation's capability will put you in good stead when
applying for funding and contracts: Even if there is no funding
available in your area at present, it is likely that receiving an
ILCM Accreditation will help you apply for future funding or contracts.
Why
is an accreditation system beneficial for my group?
Accreditation systems are used to measure the relative capability
or competence of different organisations. They allow users and customers
to determine who is most able to provide a service or a product.
For public bodies this allows them to select organisations that
they would like to work with. This allows funders to identify organisations
most likely to achieve delivery of projects against outcomes.
Who
accredits ILCM Communtiy Interest Company?
Our
accreditation system gains its approval throughout the voluntary
and community sector and with public bodies and by being underpinned
by sector and inter-national standards. Ouraccreditation system
is periodically subject to independent assessment.
How
is accreditation be recognised?
 |
| Accreditation
runs along the same lines as systems such as Investors
in People, for example. Once you have achieved accreditation
your organisation will be placed on our public register,
you will be permitted to use the ILCM Accreditation mark
on your literature and you will be awarded your certificate. |
